How can researchers map and analyze the complex web of interactions among millions of technology firms to understand what drives innovation? The research team, including experts from prestigious institutions like Harvard University, needed to examine various proximity dimensions - geographical, cognitive, organizational, social, and technological - that influence corporate innovation in China’s tech landscape. Traditional data sources and linear methods couldn’t handle the data volume and complexity, making it difficult to uncover meaningful patterns within these expansive innovation networks.
